How to check if a car from China was a Didi taxi
Millions of cars in China work for Didi and other ride-hailing platforms. Many are later sold to exporters after very heavy use. Here is how to find out before you pay.
Why former ride-hailing cars are a risk
Ride-hailing cars in China are registered for commercial passenger transport. They run long hours every day, so suspension, interior, brakes and batteries wear much faster than on a private car. After the commercial registration is cancelled, such cars can be resold as ordinary used cars, and the history is not always disclosed to foreign buyers.
What the VIN check shows
Our Registration & Taxi check queries Chinese records by the 17-digit VIN and shows whether commercial passenger-transport (taxi / ride-hailing) use is on record, how many times ownership was transferred, and the registration city. The report arrives in English, Russian or Arabic, usually within a minute.
Warning signs to check in person
Even with a clean report, inspect the car: a worn driver seat bolster and steering wheel, heavily used rear seats, holes from phone or meter mounts, and service records that do not match the dashboard.
Models most often used as taxis
In China the most common ride-hailing models include the BYD Qin PLUS, GAC Aion S, BYD Han, Toyota Camry and BYD Song PLUS. If you are buying one of them, the taxi check is the first thing to do.
